ANOTHER DAY ANOTHER ABDIMAS: FINANCIAL LITERACY SERIES WITH THE THEME OF FAMILY FINANCIAL PLANNING
Community service (abdimas) is one of the tri dharma of higher education which is the main responsibility of the academic community. This activity aims to apply science, technology, and skills that provide direct benefits to society, both on a local and global scale. Last November, several lecturers from Business Administration successfully carried out abdimas activities in a kindergarten.
This community service activity focuses on the important need for financial literacy, especially regarding family financial planning in the environment of parents and teachers of Taman Indria Kindergarten, Bandung City. The lecturers involved in this activity include Pak Aldi Akbar, Pak Budi Rustandi, Pak Mahendra Fakhri, Pak Arif Kuswanto, and Pak Syarifuddin.
The main objective of this activity was to increase awareness and understanding among households on effective financial management practices. Using a workshop format, the implementation involved direct engagement with participants, creating an interactive learning environment. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ understanding of budgeting, saving and investment strategies.
The evaluation highlighted an increase in proactive financial behavior among the participants, indicating a positive shift in attitude towards long-term financial planning. In addition, the training also emphasized the integration of digital financial tools, which participants found useful in managing household finances. In conclusion, the training successfully addressed key barriers to effective family financial management and is a step towards fostering a financially literate society in Indonesia.
Abdimas activities provide extensive benefits, both for the community and the university. The community gets real solutions to the problems they face, while lecturers and students gain experience and empirical data that can be developed into further research.
Through community service, universities act as drivers of change that support sustainable development. Lecturers as the main implementers of this activity show that knowledge does not only stop in the classroom, but also brings real impact to everyday life.
